28 July 2009 :: Lake City to Ouray (52 miles)

  • I thought the passage through the Rocky Mountains National Park and Independence Pass were both quite amazing but they were only preparation for what I was to see across Engineer Pass and since I got lost along the way, the Corkscrew Pass and everything in-between.
  • The dirt roads are sign posted as suitable for 4x4 vehicles only and certainly the roads were the most extreme I'd traveled thus far.
  • With a name like "Corkscrew Pass" I knew I was in for an entertaining ride and at times I reckon the incline of the road was at least on a 40 degrees - with 35kgs on the back of the bike this really made for a few exciting moments and I really thought I was going to take a tumble more than once.
  • Got some of the best photos of the journey thus far, really amazing sights and views.
  • I've had really quite limited phone/data reception for the past few days so my GPS Snitch has simply not been reporting my position for the past few days.
