25-26 July 2009 :: Glenwood Springs to Aspen (~50miles)

  • Got up early on Saturday to find a motorcycle repair shop to deal with my rear tyre before things closed early on Saturday. I was lucky enough to find Hi Point Motorsports who really helped me out a lot given I just dropped in on them at the last moment on a Saturday without a booking. They immediately understood my need and without even asking they squeezed me into their schedule to get me back out on the road again. Kudos goes to Hi Point.
  • Decided to take it easy for the last few days in Aspen - seems I needed the rest as I slept a full 12 hours straight.
  • Aspen is very moto friendly - you can park a moto anywhere on the streets free and dirtbikes coming off the mountain seem to cruise home without needing to trailer haul them home - very civilized indeed.
  • When you get to Aspen in the Summer on your dirtbike or dual purpose you should ride up the mountain! Yep, you can ride right up to the top with little effort across three different passes each of varying difficultly - I took the middle-of-the-difficulty run on the backside of the mountain but really the front-side pass looks pretty easy too - ahh, the nature trail hikers will not be thrilled to see you at the top of the hill wearing moto gear so keep a sharp tongue.
  • BTW: you should get a sandwich at Johnny McGuires.
