23 July 2009 :: Denver to Grand Lakes (135 miles)

  • I knew I was in for some incredible roads when I pulled into the fuel station and noticed 100 Octane rated fuel for sale, mind you it was more than double the price of normal fuel but it was there as if to say, "You're going to want this for the road ahead..."
  • I had to take cover for 20 minutes from a thunderstorm with brilliant lightning strikes and heavy rain that appeared as quickly as it disappeared.
  • Then without knowing it ahead of time I rode myself into one of the most scenic roads this region has to offer. Namely the Deer Pass through the Rocky Mountains National Park which is apparently the highest paved road (12,181ft) in North America and it really is something to marvel. In short if you're ever anywhere near this part of the world take the time to travel that road.
  • I've stopped in Grand Lakes for the night and I'm planning on getting up early to go back over the pass again, turn around and come right back again!
  • The photos will tell the story, just check em out!
