Did I mention the ride today was fantastic? Today was just day one of 30 something on my ride from NYC to SF and it really was a great day to get started with. The weather was fine and not too hot, the roads were good, the traffic was manageable and the sights through the Adirondacks were really something to write about.
The day started early at around 6:30 and after just a 4 hours sleep I just could not bear to lay in bed any longer, I had to get out there and get started, so I did. My first stop was Ossning where I had some new front brake pads installed by the guys at Hudson Valley Motorcycles. While there I got chatting with Jack, a customer who knew much of the territory I was going to cover today. He pointed recommended I take the Taconic Parkway (which means no trucks and easier traffic) to Albany, take the North Road (87) into the Adirondack Park until the 9 which took me through to Lake Placid.
Random stuff from the day:-
- The two Dear that bounced across the Taconic Parkway as I passed.
- “Go and eat at the pub by Lake George, it's great food” (was a shocker!)
- The smooth new tarmac that has just been laid between Lake Placid and Whiteface (NYS Route 86)
- The couple from Louisiana on a Harley that had been riding for 14 days, not going anywhere special, just riding.
- The spa and sauna in my hotel tonight, feel guilty about it though since the camping round here is damn fantastic!
- 100's of photos taken at 30 second intervals from the front of the bike and a handful manual photos.
