24 July 2009 :: Grand Lake to Glenwood Springs (321 miles)

  • 321 miles and at least 100 miles of that was on dirt roads varying from well maintained to roads with one foot deep ruts.
  • Got up at 5:30am to go over (and back) the Rocky Mountain National Park again without traffic. It really is an amazing park with the kind of spectacular views you'd expect at ~12,000 ft. I was one of the first people up on the mountain and the wildlife was out playing on the roads without looking both ways before crossing. Got a few good photos of the elk and other things with antlers attached to their heads.

23 July 2009 :: Denver to Grand Lakes (135 miles)

  • I knew I was in for some incredible roads when I pulled into the fuel station and noticed 100 Octane rated fuel for sale, mind you it was more than double the price of normal fuel but it was there as if to say, "You're going to want this for the road ahead..."
  • I had to take cover for 20 minutes from a thunderstorm with brilliant lightning strikes and heavy rain that appeared as quickly as it disappeared.

22 July 2009 :: Colby to Denver (260 miles)

  • Stayed in some two bit motel in Colby. The place seems notable only because it exists on bend along the otherwise dead straight Interstate 70.
  • Things changed dramatically the very moment I crossed the state line from Kansas to Colorado, the roads are noticeably better and the speed limit is 75mph.

21 July 2009 :: Kansas City to Colby (380 miles)

I really did not want to leave Kansas City so I procrastinated about it until 3pm before I got out on the road again.

16-20 July 2009 :: Kansas City (0 miles)

Kansas City. Friends are all asking why I'm still in Kansas City and the truth is this city really is a great and very liveable city and no I'm not going crazy. The city is clean, the people are fun, there's great food, the buildings are grand.... I could just go on and on! Anyway, I've decided to stay a few more days than planned, the photos attached will speak for themselves.

14-15 July 2009 :: Escanba to Kansas City (414 + 339 miles)

Twitter to Drupal

A quick test to see if I can easily get my Twitter messages into Drupal with minimal effort...

13 July 2009 :: French River to Escanba (438 miles)

  • Started out at 6am and it was cold, 10C and on a bike that can get cold with the wind chill after a few hours!
  • Stopped in Sudbury (a big Nickel mining town) got some breakfast and to better combat the cold I installed the inner liner on my pants. Of course this involves me first taking off my pants in the middle of the street which as I'm standing there half dressed I realise I'm standing in front of the local Nightclub.
  • There are just loads and loads of camping sites along the top of Lake Huron in Canada.

12 July 2009 :: Toronto to French River (278 miles)

The ride today was shorter then the past two days but I had my most enjoyable miles thus far today even though I met with my first rain somewhere along the way today.

Point form is so much easier:-

  • I configured the GPS to avoid all Interstate roads and thus ended up taking a more scenic route and then even took a detour into some fun twisty parts!
  • Because of the more scenic route taken the photos from the front of the bike are much better today -- I'll list them below.
